Two free artists workshops coming to Swain Center

Doug Hubbs will teach a free class entitled “Basic Kiln Maintenance” on April 9 at the SCC Swain Center.
SCC’s Nantahala School for the Arts will be offering two free workshops for artists this spring. These workshops are free of charge and designed to provide essential skills necessary for the successful operation of a studio-based business.

The first workshop, “Basic Kiln Maintenance,” will be offered from 6-8:30 p.m. on April 9 at the SCC Swain Center. Doug Hubbs, potter and Heritage Arts instructor, will lead this workshop focusing on basic tips to care for your electric kiln. Doug has worked with and installed more than 100 kilns over the past 30 years as a licensed electrical contractor.

“Social Media for Artists” will be offered on May 5, from 6-8:30 p.m., in room 114 of the SCC Swain Center. Elise Delfield, potter and Heritage Arts instructor, is the owner/operator of her own studio-based business and gallery (Pincu Pottery) as well as a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild. She has used social media to promote her art and business extensively.

Both workshops are limited to 12 participants. To reserve a seat, contact Jeff Marley at 828.366.2005 or email j_marley[at]southwesterncc[dot]edu.
