Concurrent Enrollment
     Students

READY TO ‘Start College Early’? Here’s How:

Submit an application to the SCC Admissions Office.
An application form is required each school year. Parent permission is required for students under 18.
Take the Accuplacer.
The Accuplacer (CPT) Test is required for students taking College/University Transfer courses. The Accuplacer is given free of charge. Testing sessions can be scheduled at the SCC-Sylva or SCC-Macon campuses. The Accuplacer may also be given at your high school. Contact SCC Testing Services or your high school guidance office for more information.

Note: Official SAT Critical Reading scores of 500 or higher may be substituted for the Accuplacer Reading and Sentence Skills tests. The Accuplacer is required for placement into math courses.
Register for classes at your high school and SCC.
A Concurrent Enrollment Registration and Permission Form is required for each semester. Complete each form after selecting from the course listings available on our website. Note each course’s start date since ‘regular’ SCC classes often start before the first day of classes at local high schools. Students can register for all types of Concurrent Enrollment courses on one CE Registration form. Student, high school principal, and guidance counselor signatures are required.
Buy Textbooks.
For most programs, textbooks and materials must be purchased by participating students. Textbooks should be purchased prior to the first day of classes.
Visit the SCC Bookstore online at http://www.southwesterncc.edu/bookstore/index.htm to look up required items for each course. The SCC bookstore is located on the third floor of the Balsam Center at SCC-Sylva. Bookstore staff will send textbooks to the SCC campus/ center most convenient to you at no charge. Shipping is also available. Call or email the bookstore for more details.

If a student has demonstrated financial need, textbook assistance may be available. Contact the Concurrent Enrollment office for more details.
Connect to mySCC.
All new SCC students are issued log-in to access mySCC, webmail, and Blackboard (Bb). Official college information is sent to you through mySCC. To activate this account, you must log in by visiting www.southwesterncc.edu and clicking on the ‘mySCC’ link.
Attend a Blackboard (Bb) Training Session (online classes only)
Visit the ‘Distance Learning’ section of our website. Browse the tools available under ‘Student Resources’ to get familiar with Blackboard. Complete the online orientation at http://www.southwesterncc.edu/ distlearn/blackboard/prospective.htm. If desired, attend an on-campus training session during the first week of classes.
Attend Class.
ACE-Huskins classes are most often located on your high school campus or through ITV. Regular SCC classes are offered in Sylva, Franklin, Bryson City, and Cherokee. Online classes are provided through Blackboard on the Internet.
Introduce yourself to your SCC Instructor. Read each course syllabus carefully. Ask questions. Get engaged in class discussions. Set yourself up to be successful from the very first day!
