Facility
Projects Update
Chuck Reece, Director of Human
Resources and Facility Development, sent the following update
on facility projects. These projects were made possible with bond
money specifically allocated for repair and renovation.
MACON
COUNTY
The addition of showers and dressing rooms to the Public Safety
Training Center is now beyond the design stage and PBC+L Architecture
is proceeding with preparation of construction documents to present
to local contractors for bids.
Sutton-Kennerly Engineering will be providing their findings on
repairs needed at the Burn Building. Early indications are that
the temperature shocks that occur have caused some delamination
of the concrete and bricks, but serious structural damage is not
evident.
SWAIN
COUNTY
Bids were opened on the renovation project, which will complete
the renovations started with the 1993 bond monies. The renovation
will include converting the gymnasium into a multi-purpose room,
creating two general-purpose classrooms from the former library
and renovating the cafeteria and kitchen into a craft lab for
pottery and art classes.
JACKSON
COUNTY
The renovations to the Extension Education in Founders' Hall
offices are nearly complete and the division should be occupying
its new space by the end of this semester.
The concrete stairs leading from Founders' Hall to parking
lot B will be poured this Friday, Nov. 15, weather permitting.
"Fill'er up!"
No. It's not a gas station, or a Starbuck's. The space inside
the Balsam Center that was previously designed to be a
concession area will soon by an Information Center. The space
will double as cashier space during registration, allowing a total
of four cashiers to be available!
A directory Kiosk is being added to the space that was formerly
a ticket booth outside the Balsam Center.
Oaks Hall, Founders Hall and Bradford Hall recently had
natural gas boilers installed. The gas lines buried on campus
have the capacity to expand to future buildings.
