Welcome Aboard
Jennifer Thomas was recently hired as the administrative
assistant of Student and Institutional Development. Jennifer has
a B.S. degree from Western Carolina University in Communications,
Training and Development. She was previously employed by WCU as
an administrative assistant in the Department of Health and Human
Performances. She also gained experience working in the Advancement
and External Affairs and Alumni Affairs Offices at WCU.
Margaret
Sutton was recently hired as an administrative assistant for
the Macon Center. Margaret holds an A.A.S. degree in Office Systems
Technology from SCC. Margaret was previously employed by Angel
Home Health and Hospice as an administrative assistant. After
graduating from SCC, Margaret worked as a part-time Human Resource
Assistant until she secured a full-time position with the Franklin
Early Childhood Development Center.

Now
Accepting Applications for Verizon's Beyond the Classroom Mini
Grant
Southwestern
Community College was recently provided funding for Verizon's
Beyond the Classroom mini grant for the second year. The grant
provides financial support to help SCC students engage in learning
experiences outside of the normal academic environment. For example,
students may be interested in attending a state, regional or national
professional conference in their discipline area.
The
mini-grant program can provide funds associated with travel, lodging,
registration, and per diem costs for students to attend workshops,
conferences, training and seminars. Faculty costs associated with
accompanying students to these events are also eligible. Applicants
must provide evidence of their plans for acquiring matching dollars
though fund raising.
To
apply, please prepare and submit a brief letter of application
(a maximum of 3 pages) that includes the following:

Please
submit your materials by June 30th to Sonja Haynes, Director
of the SCC Foundation. A team of the SCC Foundation Board members
and college faculty/staff will review the applications. Recipients
will be asked to submit a final report to the Foundation within
15 days after the event takes place.

Summer
Survivor
Mark your calendar! The Student Leadership Association will host
"Summer Survivor" from 12-2 p.m. on June 29. Winners
take home a cash prize (up to $250). Teams must sign up no later
than 12:30 p.m. at the Bradford Lawn/Gazebo. Don't miss the free
food and fun!
