Now Accepting Applications for Verizon's Beyond the Classroom Mini Grant

Southwestern Community College was recently provided funding for Verizon's Beyond the Classroom mini grant for the second year. The grant provides financial support to help SCC students engage in learning experiences outside of the normal academic environment. For example, students may be interested in attending a state, regional or national professional conference in their discipline area.

The mini-grant program can provide funds associated with travel, lodging, registration, and per diem costs for students to attend workshops, conferences, training and seminars. Faculty costs associated with accompanying students to these events are also eligible. Applicants must provide evidence of their plans for acquiring matching dollars though fund raising.

To apply, please prepare and submit a brief letter of application (a maximum of 3 pages) that includes the following:

* Name of applicant
* Name of SCC facility member sponsor(s)
* Name, location and date(s) of event
* Description of the proposed event
* Explanation of importance to learning process
* Planned number of students attending event
* Planned number of faculty attending event
* Description of plans for acquiring matching dollars
* Project impact of event attendance and anticipated results or outcomes
* Detailed project budget

Please submit your materials by June 30th to Sonja Haynes, Director of the SCC Foundation. A team of the SCC Foundation Board members and college faculty/staff will review the applications. Recipients will be asked to submit a final report to the Foundation within 15 days after the event takes place.

If you have any questions please contact Laura Pennington or Sonja Haynes.
