Auto Dealer Pre-Licensing Course: (12 hrs.) This course provides prospective auto dealers with the twelve hours of authorized pre-licensing training in order to be licensed in the state of North Carolina. Topics include: powers of commissioner, dealer license plates, vehicle inspections, titling and registration, frequently used forms, and dealer disclosures. Self-Supporting.

Construction Estimating: (24 hrs.) Students will gain an understanding of why an estimate is needed prior to construction. Methods of producing an accurate estimated will be studied as well as plans, specifications, and contracts. Topics include: basic math and calculations, cost estimating, calculation steps for work/hrs rate, time savers and wasters, completing the estimate and pricing.

NC Auto Safety Inspection Certification: (8 hrs.) This course covers the inspection rules and procedures of a public inspection station. Safety inspectors are responsible for knowing all the information in the NC Safety Inspection manual.

NC Real Estate Update: (4 hrs.) 2009-10 NC Real Estate Update Course. This course is written by the N.C. Real Estate Commission. The cost of course materials are included in the registration fee. Self-Supporting.

NC Real Estate Elective Course-Sustainable Housing and Building Green: What Agents Should Know: (4 hrs.) The movement focused on environmentally sustainable building structures has now moved into the residential market. This new emphasis on environmental awareness makes it imperative for real estate professionals to be accurately informed. This class covers the basics of sustainable housing, or building “green”, and helps familiarize students with this emerging market.

Notary Public Education: (6 hrs.) This course covers the qualifications, procedures and certification for becoming a notary. Students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, reside legally in the United States and have the ability to read, write and speak the English language. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office. Students are encouraged to purchase and read through the textbook prior to attending the course. The required textbook, Notary Public Guidelines for North Carolina 10th Edition, may be purchased in class or at the College Bookstore prior to class. Book cost is approximately $27.75. Students must present a current photo ID (including signature and physical description) to be admitted to class. Only state or federal government ID or federal or state recognized tribal government agency ID are acceptable.

Plumbing Level III Standard Inspection: (16 hrs.) The Plumbing Level III course is designed for the education and training of the Plumbing Level III Code Enforcement Official who has the responsibility of inspecting plumbing installations in all types of construction of unlimited size and is built upon information presented in the Plumbing Level I and Plumbing Level II Standard Inspection courses. Upon completion, course participants will have a better understanding of the Plumbing Code of the North Carolina State Building Code and will be able to apply the Code in the inspection field. In addition, with the successful completion of the Plumbing Level II and the Law and Administration courses in conjunction with other education and experience requirements specified by the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, course participants will be eligible to take the Plumbing Level III State examination for inspector certification.

Professional Office Management: (120 hrs.) This program will prepare the student to successfully work in an office environment. Topics presented: office management, computer business applications, word processing and QuickBooks. The student will also complete the Notary Public education class.

Tanning Bed Operator Certification: (8 hrs.) This class is mandatory for anyone who works with tanning beds. Self-Supporting.

Welding Basics: (50 hours): This course will teach basic welding skills necessary for student employment in the welding industry. The course includes the following topics: occupational orientation, welding metal, using tools to shape and cut metals, understanding weld tests, and safety. Lecture, demonstration and hands-on applications are the instructional methods used in this course.

Your Role in the Green Environment: (15 hrs.) This course will examine green construction principles and methodologies. Your Role in the Green Environment introduces the LEED Green Building Rating System, helps identify construction activities that contribute to a project's LEED rating, and addresses common construction pitfalls to avoid in achieving LEED certification. The curriculum is endorsed by Green Advantage® and recognized as beneficial to students and practitioners planning to sit for the Green Advantage Commercial/Residential certification exam. Book Cost ($35 approx.)

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

If you have received a citation or ticket, but don’t want your insurance rates to go up, enroll in our four-hour Defensive Driving class. You can save money on your insurance, keep points off your license and sharpen your driving skills. This program was designed by the National Safety and Health Council and is offered by Southwestern Community College and Mike Bonfoey, District Attorney of the 30th Judicial District.

To take advantage of the program drivers should register and complete the four-hour course before their court date. The cost for the course is a non-refundable $60. Drivers must then enter a written plea agreement and plead guilty to a lesser charge. Court costs and fines will be assessed.

Some of the violations eligible are speeding, failing to reduce speed, exceeding safe speed, failure to reduce speed, stop sign violation, unsafe movement, red light violation, improper passing, improper use of traffic lane, failure to give turn signal, driving left of center, failure to burn or dim headlights and crossing median.

Drivers are not eligible if they have a commercial driver’s license and the violation occurred while they were operating a commercial vehicle. Drivers are also ineligible if an accident was involved that resulted in personal injury to someone or resulted in property damage in excess of $1,000. Other restrictions may apply.

Please bring your driver’s license, your citation, and $60 in cash to any SCC location
Drivers must register five business days prior to the class.
No late arrivals will be admitted to class.

Registration and Information: If you are a highly motivated learner with a busy schedule, taking a class over the Internet offers an opportunity to gain skills without the structure of the traditional classroom.

These courses are all six week courses and will enable you to earn CEU’s (based on your final exam).
