Pre-Hospital Trauma
Life Support (PHTLS):
This class emphasizes injury
prevention, basic and advanced
trauma management. Offered
for EMT-Intermediates, Paramedics,
RNs, PAs and MDs, the class
covers advanced treatment
of the trauma patients as
well as basic management.

Advanced Cardiac
Life Support (ACLS):
ACLS is geared toward experienced
healthcare professionals
including EMT-Paramedics,
RNs, PAs and physicians.
The course focuses on advanced
emergency procedures used

myocardial infarction and
other critical cardiac syndromes.
Pre-requisites include current
CPR provider certification.

Pediatric Education
for Pre-hospital Professionals:
(PEPP) (w/ PALS Refresher)
represents a complete source
of pre-hospital medical
information for the emergent
care of infants and children.
Developed by the American
Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP
is an exciting curriculum
designed specifically to
teach pre-hospital professionals
how to better assess and
manage ill or injured children.

Medical First Responder/EMT:
The class prepares students
to treat ill or injured
patients in the field. The
class consists of basic
emergency procedures including
CPR review, basic airway
management, assessment and
treatment of medical and
traumatic emergencies. The
total 72 hour class consists
of didactic and hands-on
patient scenario training.
Current AHA/HCP-CPR certification
is required. An academic
grade level reading test
will be given at the first
class session; tenth grade
level must be achieved.

Topics include preparatory,
airway, Cardiac Arrest/AED,

knowledge and skills necessary
to achieve North Carolina
State or National Registry
EMT-Basic certification.

EMT – Basic
– On-Line:
This course is designed
to instruct a student to
the level of Emergency Medical
Technician who serves as
a vital link in the chain
of the health care team.
This includes all skills
necessary for the individual
to provide emergency medical
care at a basic life support
level with an ambulance
service or other specialized
service. CPR certification
from the American Heart
Association at the Health
Care Provider level or at
the Professional Rescuer
level from the Red Cross
is a pre-admissions requirement.
Course work will be completed
through on-line assignments,
programs and class participation.
Several Saturdays will be
scheduled to complete the
practical skills and testing.
A state comprehensive written
exam will be required at
the completion of the class.

EMT-Intermediate:
This course is designed
to provide the necessary
information for interventions
appropriate to the EMT-Intermediate
and is required for intermediate
certification. Topics include
automated external defibrillation,
basic pharmacology, basic
cardiac electrophysiology,
intravenous therapy, venipuncture,
acid-base balance, and fluids
and electrolytes. Upon completion,
students should be able
to properly establish an
IV line, obtain venous blood,
utilize AEDs, and correctly
interpret arterial blood
gases. Malpractice Insurance

Public Safety Program
Entrance Examination (TABE
Exam): This test
is a requirement for admission
into all EMS, Law Enforcement,
and Fire Academy Certification
courses. Students must score
a minimum of 10th grade
level for entrance in programs.
The results from this exam
are valid for one year.
The Exam will be offered
twice each quarter. For
more information or to pre-register

There is no cost for this
exam. The exam is offered
weekly at the Macon Annex
by appointment only. Call

to be scheduled to take
the TABE exam.
EMT-Paramedic:
