Discover the Art of Silk Painting & Batik: Learn this fascinating and beautiful medium as Kathy Rowe discusses and demonstrates dyeing and resist methods in silk painting and batik. We will discover the endless possibilities for creating unique pieces of fiber art. Self-Supporting.

Make A Throw or Poncho: Have you always wondered if you could make a throw or poncho? No sewing required! Select your choice of fleece and bring to class. Instructor will show you how easy it is to create either a throw and/or a poncho. A supply list including how to choose your fleece will be sent upon registration. Self-Supporting.

Simplicity of Watercolor: In this beginner class of watercolor painting taught by Kathy Rowe, you will enjoy the exploration of color theory, mixing and overlaying colors. Watercolor techniques such as masking, splattering, sponging and stippling will be discussed while demonstrated. Come and experience the simple beauty of this medium. Self-Supporting.

Acrylic PaintingAcrylic Painting: Do you have the desire to paint landscapes, still life, flowers, animals, or even people? If so, this class is for you. Create beautiful works of art using acrylic paint. This class is structured for intermediate to advanced, but beginners are welcome. On the first night, students should bring their own supplies along with a project of choice. Future projects and supplies will also be discussed on the first night of class. Self-Supporting.

Dance

Ballroom Dancing: Ballroom dancing is great exercise and a good way to interact socially. Learn the basic steps of the foxtrot, waltz, cha cha, swing, tango and rumba while listening to sounds of the big bands in an informal atmosphere. Partners and comfortable leather shoes are suggested. Self-Supporting.

Beginning Swing Dance/ Jitterbug: Swing dancing is a fun way to get in shape and to meet new people. This class is an introduction to East Coast swing or Jitterbug. We will learn the basic six-count pattern and begin working on triple-time. Taught by Heidi Turlington. Come with or without a partner. Wear comfortable, soft bottom shoes. Self-Supporting.

Lindy Hop I: Lindy Hop is a fast and fun version of swing dancing that is based on an eight-count pattern of footwork. This class will cover the basics of lindy hop and related dance styles. No dance experience necessary. Come with or without a partner. Self-Supporting.

Shag Dance: Shag is a central part of the Carolina lifestyle and a great way to keep in shape while having fun. People of all ages do the shag. Learn the basic steps of the shag to some vintage beach music. This class promises to be a lot of fun for anyone who likes to dance or wants to learn! Partners and comfortable shoes are suggested. General Interest

Basic Income Tax: This course covers filing requirements and status; exemptions and dependents, income sources, adjustments, standard and itemized deductions, credits, tax on retirement plans, sale of personal residence, tax tables and NC state Individual income tax returns. The course will teach successful students to prepare their own income tax returns and seek employment opportunities with tax and accounting firms offering income tax preparation services. Book is an additional $35. Self-Supporting.

Qigong: (Chee-gong) is an ancient oriental movement exercise designed to bring balance in body, mind, and spirit. Holistic therapist, Laura Elliott, will lead two 6-hour classes on this ancient Chinese exercise. The style that Laura teaches is called 8 Pieces of Silk and involves eight movements that are gentle and simple to learn, yet very effective. The exercises develop flexibility, strength and balance, as well as boosting the immune system. Self-Supporting.

Beginning Guitar: Learn how to demystify the elements of basic guitar playing with this deductive system that builds itself. This instructor’s fundamental approach offers a simple method of understanding the guitar that allows students to learn on their own even after the class ends. Whether you are a beginner or already know how to play the guitar, you can learn something that will enrich your guitar playing. Self-Supporting.

Herbs: This will be a comprehensive course on herbs, discussing history and uses as well as planting and cultural requirements. Growing herbs inside and outside the home and how to use them in cooking and crafts will wrap up this course. Self-Supporting.

Language

Beginning Spanish Level I: Beginner Spanish- Level I provides the foundation upon which future levels will be based. The focus of this level is to learn proper pronunciation as well as the basic structure of the language. Present-tense verb conjugations are considered as well as the correct formation of sentences, negative sentences and questions. There will be some conversation practice. Latin American cultural differences will also be discussed, which will definitely help those who are planning a trip to a Spanish-speaking Latin America country. Self-Supporting.
