Clay

The following clay classes will be limited to 12 students per class and a material fee of approximately $100.

Clay – Alternate Firing: Students will explore horsehair, fuming, and raku in this class. Designed for both wheel thrown and hand-built non-functional pottery, students will have an opportunity to explore new raku glazes in addition to the studio raku glazes. Limit of 12 students. Earn 7.2 CEUs in this 12 week class. Instructor: Joe Frank McKee. Materials: Approximately $50.
• SCC, Swain Center 6/2-9/3 TTh 6-9P $60

Clay – Basic Wheel: Designed to ground you in the basics. Students will complete several wheel thrown projects including cylinders, mugs, bowls and pitchers. You will explore glazes, horsehair, raku and cone 6 firing to complete your projects. Level of difficulty and expectations based upon throwing experience. Limit of 12 students. Earn 7.2 CEUs in this 12-week class. Instructor: Norma Ivey on evenings and Doug Hubbs on afternoons. Materials: Approximately $50.

Clay – Boot Camp: Designed for those who want to immerse themselves in the clay experience. This class will provide opportunities in both wheel thrown and hand-built ceramics and a variety of firing techniques. This four-week class will earn 7.2 CEUs. Materials: Approximately $50. Instructor: TBA
• SCC, TBA 7/6-7/23 MTWTh 9A-4P $60

Clay – Hand-built Whimsies: Students will utilize the extruder, the slab roller and a variety of hand-forming techniques to make both functional and non-functional objects of whimsy then decorating them with a variety of techniques. Throwers will be challenged to incorporate throwing with their handbuilding techniques. Limit of 12 students. Earn 7.2 CEUs in this 12-week class. Instructor: Elise Delfield. Materials: Approximately $75.
• SCC, Swain Center 6/8-9/2 MW 1-4P $60

Clay – Bisque Forms: A hand-building class designed to teach students how to create a clay form, bisque fire it, and then use it as a mold to make many pieces. In this course you will make the molds and then make and glaze the forms from the molds. Earn 3.6 CEUs in this 6-week class. Instructor: Elise Delfield. Materials: Approximately $50.
• SCC, Swain Center 7/21-9/3 TTh 6-9P $60

Clay – Musical Instruments: This is an opportunity for the experienced potter to learn new forms by making musical instruments and for the novice potter to explore clay in an alternate way by making a variety of percussion and wind instruments. Both throwing and hand-building skills will be stretched. Recommended Book: From Mud to Music by Barry Hall. Earn 7.2 CEUs in this 12 week class. Instructor: Joe Frank McKee. Materials: Approximately $50.

Clay – Pouring Vessels: Students will concentrate on teapots and pitchers; developing style, functionality, volume, and finish. Limit of 12 students. Earn 7.2 CEUs in this 12-week class. Instructor: Elise Delfield. Materials: Approximately $50.
