Southwestern Community College is committed to helping students achieve their needs for certification, re-certification and career advancement through a broad spectrum of update classes offered throughout Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties as well as the Qualla Boundary.

The Continuing Education, Emergency Medical Science program currently offers classes that introduce new students to the world of emergency medical care through Basic Life Support Education. Completion of the Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician - Basic courses will prepare the student for examination by both the State of North Carolina and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for official certification. Upon receiving certification by the N.C. Office of EMS or National Registry of EMT’s, students will be prepared to fill the role of a first responder on a Fire Department or as an EMT-Basic will be able to work for an EMS transport service.

Our department also offers a wide variety of classes geared to the Advanced Life Support Programs in the area. From initial introduction to Advanced Life Support in an EMT-Intermediate class, to the completion of initial Paramedic training as well as developing and providing classes for the ever-changing profession of Emergency Medical Science, Southwestern Community College has what you need to enhance your performance in the field.

Classes (see below) are offered at all SCC locations as well as EMS agency locations in our service area and at various times throughout the year, refer to the Google EMS  Training Calendar linked above. In order to secure a place in class as well as to ensure sufficient enrollment, pre-registration for courses is required.
