www.newscientist.com: As the name implies, it is geared to many science topics, some contemporary and some archival, such as global warming, population/demographics, medicine, archaeology, astromony, and so on. Very user friendly.

www.cnn.com/science: Actually quite good, clearly aims to deliver info on recent breakthroughs in medicine, biology, earth sciences, ... .
