Metacognition, one of the latest buzzwords in educational psychology, refers to higher order thinking about and active control of mental processes involved in learning.

*If you are curious about a relatively new construct of thinking about thinking, learn about metacognition. We engage in it every day of our lives, and it especially impacts our success in an academic setting. Livingston provides an overview of this metacognitive theory (Flavell) which takes into consideration factors including personal, task-oriented, and strategies chosen to undertake tasks.
