Personal Interest/Plus 50

One of the missions of the community college is to offer courses and instruction to the community that that do not fit neatly into degree or certificate programs.  Southwestern Community College has been providing personal enrichment programs since the founding of the college.

Classes and offerings are always changing based on student desires, instructor availability, and facilities and resources available.  Most of these classes are self-supporting, meaning that the students pay the salaries of the instructor and other fees associated with the class. It is our goal that if we have a group of students that want to participate in a class, and we have an instructor willing to teach it, and we have a place to hold the class, then we do what we can to make it happen.

You might have a class you would like to take that you do not see on the list below, or you might have a class you would like to teach. Contact Michael Rich and he will discuss the possibilities with you.

In 2010, SCC began a program entitled “Plus 50” that seeks to develop classes specifically for older adults in our area.  Some of the classes that have been designed for older adults include specialized computer classes, working with digital cameras and devices, classes that are scheduled during daylight hours with generally shorter and more flexible hours.  As you go through the course listings, you will see that many of these classes have been developed with the Plus 50 crowd in mind.
