Known Issues with Internet Explorer and Blackboard Online Tests
If you are using Internet Explorer and you are having difficulty taking tests in Blackboard, do the following:
  • We highly suggest that you use Firefox 3 as a browser. Download and install Mozilla Firefox. Access your Blackboard course (and test) using this browser.
  • If you would rather use Internet Explorer, try the following:
    • Add Blackboard Server to Compatibility Settings:
      1. Open Internet Explorer
      2. click Page on menu
      3. drop down to "Compatibility View Settings"
      4. add the Blackboard server address https://my.southwesterncc.edu
    • Check Java:
      1. Go to Java.com
      2. Click on "Do I Have Java?"
      3. If your Java is not up to date you will be directed to update your Java and download the latest version.
    • Clear your browser's cache:
      1. Go to Tools on menu
      2. drop down to Internet Options
      3. under "Browsing history" select "Delete browsing history on exit and click "Apply"
    • Disable the Visual Textbox Editor:
      1. Access Blackboard
      2. On left, click "Personal Information"
      3. Click "Set Visual Text Box Editor Options"
