SCC's Web-Centered Courses

General Information

A “Web-Centered” course is actively led and monitored by your instructor on the Internet. These websites are interactive and will permit a considerable reduction in physical attendance in a classroom.

A Web-Centered course at SCC has a course section designation of (WC)

Because of the interactive nature of the “Web-Centered” course, access to a computer with Internet capability and active student participation is a requirement for satisfactory course completion.

Though lecture materials and course assignments are accessed and completed on the Internet, students may be required to report to the campus for tests and/or review sessions as determined by the instructor.

You do not need to be a computer expert to enroll in a “Web-Centered” course; however, you should be comfortable using your e-mail, your word processor, and your Internet browser. If you are not comfortable using these tools, you may want to consider enrolling in an SCC introductory computer class to help you upgrade your computer skills.

We conduct a scheduled on-campus hands-on training session several times a year to acquaint students with distance learning at SCC. It is not mandatory for students to attend, however, students do need to have an orientation to their specific class with their instructor.

It is very important that students login to their class within the first day or two of class to avoid jeopardizing their financial aid awards.
