Zickgraf Enterprises

As one of the largest hometown-owned operations in Macon County, Zickgraf Enterprises is committed to providing educational opportunities for all its employees.

For everything from specialized, high-tech training to English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, Zickgraf counts on Southwestern.

Les Everett at Zickgraf"SCC is great; I never ask them for anything that they don't come back with an immediate and excellent response," said Les Everett, who oversees Zickgraf's Continuing Education division and coordinates training with Southwestern. "They give us schedule flexibility, and the classes are always good."

In recent years, Southwestern has provided a supervisors course for both existing and potential supervisors. Several Zickgraf employees also enrolled in Southwestern's North Carolina Manufacturing Certification program.

SCC is currently offering ESL courses, both for Zickgraf's growing Hispanic workforce as well as for employees who need to communicate with Spanish-speaking workers.

Quincy Bell

"Everything isn't always what it seems to be. It's on you to decide. If you make it hard, it's going to be hard. If you make it easy, it's going to be easy." Quincy Bell has brought truth to his words.

Vice President of the LBJ Job Corps, Bell sees himself as a role model for his peers. And perhaps it is this outlook that helped him get chosen for one of five spots paid for by the NC Department of Transportation in SCC's Excavation class.

"I've always wanted to operate heavy machinery such as bulldozers, forklifts and cranes. And I always say you've got to achieve your goals and don't let anyone or anything stop you," said Bell.
