GED Testing Information

SCC is an official GED testing Center. The GED test is composed of five broad areas: writing, reading, math, social studies and science. An individual wishing to take the GED examination should come to SCC for an initial interview and exam preparation. At the time of application, a testing schedule will be given to the applicant. Testing sites are located in BrysonCity, Cherokee, Franklin and Sylva. For more information call 339-4426 or 339-4486. SCC offers a wide variety of GED preparation classes at no charge. Test cost is $25.00

Individuals receiving a total passing score of 2250, with no single test score below 410, are awarded a High School Equivalency Certificate by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. This certificate is generally accepted on the same basis as a high school diploma when making application for employment, seeking a job promotion or applying for admission into a college or university.

Preparation:  An individual wishing to take the GED Examination should enroll in the Adult Basic Education program.

Application requirements:  

In order to take the GED examination, an individual must:

  1. Be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Submit a completed application and required credentials. (Applications are available at all College locations)

Testing:  In the event that any single test score, or the total score, is unsatisfactory, a retest may be taken after further study.
