Southwestern
Community College
Faculty Senate
Minutes of the Meeting March 17, 2005
The
meeting was called to order by President Chris Cox at
2:00 p.m. on March 17, 2005.

Professional
Development
Issues of concern to members present regarding
professional development were discussed. Faculty
Senate would like to make the following suggestions:
|
| A. |
Instructional
Administrators avoid a “point system”
across the board since the three divisions
have different needs. |
| B. |
Explore
options for providing additional funding for
faculty who are required to participate in
continuing education to maintain licensure. |
| C.
|
It
is important that faculty become proactive
concerning professional development and
times and subjects of future TLCs.
|
A
motion was made by Ron Poor and seconded by
Linda Talbott that President Cox is to carry
forward our concerns to Instructional Administration.
The motion carried unanimously.
|
|
| 2. |
Calendar
This year the college’s official calendar
was created without faculty participation. What
happened to the Calendar Committee? Ron Poor moved
and Allan Grant seconded a motion that faculty once
again be allowed to participate in decisions regarding
the college calendar. The motion carried.
|
| 3. |
Network
Management Software:
Faculty would like more information regarding remote
access to our computers. It appears that computers
are monitored without notification. After discussion,
a motion was made by Linda Talbott and seconded
by Ron Poor that we ask for a TLC where faculty
can seek clarification of privacy rules. The motion
carried.
|
| 4. |
Diversion
of Funds
There are several questions regarding diversion
of funds that are still unanswered. Last semester,
Janet Burnette offered a follow-up question and
answer session with faculty regarding these questions.
Faculty agreed that this could become a topic for
a TLC. Connie Gregory moved and Allan Grant seconded
the motion that we request this TLC. The motion
carried.
|
| 5. |
Health Insurance
Faculty present agreed that there has been a steady
erosion of our benefits as state employees. Are
there any steps we can take to address this issue?
Faculty Senate would welcome ideas from anyone interested
in this issue.
|
| 6. |
Parking
It has become apparent that students are increasingly
parking in the faculty and staff lots. Questions
were raised about the enforcement of parking regulations
and the effectiveness of enforcement efforts to
deter students from improperly parking. Faculty
expressed an interest in hearing from the human
resources manager concerning this issue.
|
The
meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
Respectfully
submitted,
Linda
Talbott
Secretary
