Foundation welcomes new members

The SCC Foundation is fortunate to have Board members who are eager to share their time, expertise, energy and resources to help make SCC what it is today and dreams of being tomorrow. This fall we welcome two new members to this stellar group. They are F. P. Bodenheimer of Franklin and Jim VanderWoude of Franklin.

F.P. Bodenheimer, III
F.P. Bodenheimer, III

F.P. Bodenheimer III graduated from The Patterson School and attended Appalachian State University before entering the business world. His first step in that direction was as owner of Klondike Café in Boone. After six years there he became a manager trainee at Zickgraf Enterprises before taking on the post of Lumber Purchaser. In 1998 he was named Vice President of Prefinished Operations. Since 2003 he has served as Vice President of Operations for Zickgraf Hardwoods.

Strongly interested in education, F.P. says, “Through our family business, I have seen what an incredible difference education can make on an individual’s life. Many of our employees have taken advantage of educational opportunities presented to them and it has completely changed their lives. I am excited about the new Macon Campus and the tremendous opportunities it will bring to the people of our community. It is an honor to serve our community through SCC Foundation.”

F.P. is also a member of Junaluska Masonic Lodge, likes late model car racing, and enjoys attending his kids’ activities and sports events. He and Allison Bodenheimer have three children, Lexi, 6, Macie, 4, and Ellie, six months.

Jim VanderWoude

Jim VanderWoude moved to Franklin in 1999 from Florida. There he had begun an electrical contracting business, later becoming active in real estate investments/developments.

Upon moving to Franklin, he and his wife, Lois, remodeled the old Belden Wire and Cable factory and transformed it into Whistle Stop Mall. He continues to be active in real estate investments in Florida, North Carolina, and other states.
Jim is a founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the new Nantahala Bank & Trust that serves Franklin and Hayesville. He is also on the Board of Directors for both the Mountain Microenterprise Foundation of Asheville and the Macon County Community Foundation. He continues to own businesses in Florida where he sits on the Board of Directors of Grand Bank and Trust.

Jim has served with several Christian foreign missionary organizations. He enjoys traveling, especially with his family, and has visited 87 countries and all 7 continents.

Jim recently said, “I believe the presence of Southwestern Community College in Macon County will be a significant catalyst for the community and will serve as a great focal point, not only for higher education but also for cultural events. Southwestern will provide quality jobs for our citizens, attract quality people to our community and help prepare the students to find and achieve their goals in life.”
