Lay |
Kim Lay
Kimberly C. Lay is a
lifelong resident of
Swain County. She is
married to Frank Lay
and they have two children,
Alec, 6, and Madeline,
3. Kim is a partner
and practicing
attorney in the Sylva
law firm of Melrose,
Seago & Lay, P.A.

Charles
Norwood |
Charles Norwood
Following a two year
degree in forestry at
a community college
in Alabama, Charlie
Norwood began his career
in the timber industry.
For a number of years
he worked in procurement,
harvesting and planting.
In the early 1980s he
formed his own land
and timber company.
The year 1995 brought
Charlie to Swain County
where he developed the
community, Fontana Lake
Estates.

Ray
Rose |
Ray Rose
Ray Rose is vice president
of Hotel, Food and Beverage
Engineering at Harrah’s
Cherokee Casino and
Hotel and is a member
of the Eastern Band
of Cherokee. Prior to
joining the Harrah’s
Cherokee team he worked
in the manufacturing
industry. Ray retired
from the U.S. Navy in
1994 and is a graduate
of Montreat College.
He lives with his wife
Cathy in Cherokee. They
have two children and
two grandchildren.

William
Shelton |
William Shelton
Jackson County native
William Shelton is a
graduate of the University
of Tennessee with a
degree in Plant and
Soil Science. A farmer
and hydroponic greenhouse
business owner, Mr.
Shelton has served on
the board of the J.C.
Soil and Water Conservation
District for the past
22 years. William lives
in Whittier with his
wife Sabrina and their
four sons, Will, Sam,
Cal, and Tom.

Charles
Wolfe |
Charles Wolfe
Charles Wolfe has owned
and operated the N.C.
State Farm Insurance
Agency in Sylva for
24 years and is a Chartered
Life Underwriter and
Life Underwriter Training
Council Fellow. He is
the immediate past president
and member of the Sylva
Rotary Club, and has
held offices in several
other community organizations.
Charles earned a B.S.
from Barton College
and a Master’s
Degree from Duke University
and Western Carolina
University. He and his
wife, Wanda, are the
parents of Amy Manshack
and Lori Good and parents-in-law
to Scott Manshack and
Tim Good. |

Kimberly (Kim)
Battle
Kim Battle began work
with the Great Smoky
Mountains Railroad in
1989, filling a number
of positions before
becoming vice president
and general manager
in 2005. She serves
as treasurer for the
Railway Association
of North Carolina. Kim
is vice chair of the
Jackson County Travel
and Tourism Authority
and is actively involved
with the Daniel Boone
Council Boy scouts of
America as a den leader
in Swain County. She
resides in Whittier
with her two children,
Colin, 9, and Cameron,
