SCC Health Science Programs Receive $15,000 Scholarship Endowment

Dr. and Mrs. Naqui El-Bayadi
Dr. and Mrs. Nagui El-Bayadi recently established a $15,000 endowment scholarship to provide deserving students from Jackson, Macon and Swain counties enrolled in health science program at Southwestern Community College financial assistance with their education.

SYLVA - Southwestern Community College's health science programs recently received a $15,000 scholarship endowment from Dr. and Mrs. Nagui El-Bayadi. Dr. El-Bayadi, a retired surgeon with WestCare Health Systems, and his wife, Marion, established this scholarship to provide deserving students from Jackson, Macon and Swain counties financial assistance with their education.

"Dr. El-Bayadi was a physician in this community from 1969-2001, and he has served on SCC's Foundation Board since 2002. Through his generosity and commitment to his community, students in health care programs at Southwestern will have an opportunity to receive financial assistance," executive director of the SCC Foundation said.

SCC offers 15 degrees in the health science fields, including nursing, radiography, medical laboratory technology and respiratory therapy, among others. Beginning in fall of 2004 scholarship money created from the El-Bayadi family endowment will be available to students.
