El-Bayadi recently
established a
$15,000 endowment
scholarship to
provide deserving
students from
Jackson, Macon
and Swain counties
enrolled in health
science program
at Southwestern
Community College
financial assistance
with their education.

SYLVA - Southwestern
Community College's
health science programs
recently received a
$15,000 scholarship
endowment from Dr. and
Mrs. Nagui El-Bayadi.
Dr. El-Bayadi, a retired
surgeon with WestCare
Health Systems, and
his wife, Marion, established
this scholarship to
provide deserving students
from Jackson, Macon
and Swain counties financial
assistance with their
education.
"Dr. El-Bayadi
was a physician in this
community from 1969-2001,
and he has served on
SCC's Foundation Board
since 2002. Through
his generosity and commitment
to his community, students
in health care programs
at Southwestern will
have an opportunity
to receive financial
assistance," executive
director of the SCC
Foundation said.
SCC offers 15 degrees
in the health science
fields, including nursing,
radiography, medical
laboratory technology
and respiratory therapy,
among others. Beginning
in fall of 2004 scholarship
money created from the
El-Bayadi family endowment
will be available to
students. For additional

and Freida Hooper Scholarship
Receives Additional
Funding

SYLVA
- Robert and Freida
Hooper recently gave
an additional $10,000
to the "Robert
and Freida Hooper Endowment
Scholarship" at
Southwestern Community
College.
The
scholarship is open
to students enrolled
in SCC's radiography
and medical sonography
programs and will be
awarded in the fall
semester.
