Faculty: |
| Joe Frank
McKee, Lead Pottery Instructor |
 |
Joe Frank McKee brings outstanding
skills as a potter to the program.
A co-owner of Tree House Pottery
in Dillsboro and an experienced
teacher with a Master of Fine Arts
degree in clay, Joe Frank provides
both practical and artistic instruction
and inspiration for the students.
As a professional potter, he specializes
in large raku and horsehair pieces
of deceptively light weight. |
Elise Delfield, Pottery Instructor |
 |
Elise Delfield's career as a potter
was interrupted by a short detour
as a librarian while she earned
a Master of Library Science degree.
As an apprentice to Linda Arbuckle,
an outstanding potter recognized
internationally, Elise developed
a love for majolica. Majolica is
a decorative surface style originally
from the Middle East and further
developed in Italy after the conquest
of North Africa and Spain by the
Muslims. (Her picture is attached) |
Doug Hubbs, Pottery Teaching Assistant |
 |
Interrupted by a long career as
an electrician, Doug Hubbs returned
to pottery a short time ago with
great ardor. An advanced student
in the program and instructor in
beginning and intermediate courses,
Doug brings passion and skill to
both pottery and teaching. With
Joe Frank as his mentor, Doug has
turned his passion for throwing
large pieces into throwing large
and light. |
Staff:
Hank Shuler, Program
Director and Studio Manager |
 |
Hank Shuler, the
program director and studio manager,
focuses on providing the pottery
students with outstanding instruction
and equipment. Her aim is to be
the best ceramic educational source
in the South East, allowing students
to explore a wide variety of both
ceramic and business skills to become
proficient, successful potters. |
Carolann Cartwright, Administrative
Assistant |
 |
Carolann keeps the paper work
flowing, working in the background
to insure that student, instructor,
staff needs are met. |
Margaret Marr, Assistant Studio
Manager |
 |
Margaret keeps the pottery program
going by mixing glazes, keeping
the kiln shelves in good order,
and running the pug mill - recyling
scrap clay. |
Harley Wiggins, Cleaning Technician |
 |
Harley takes great pride in keeping
the studio floors cleaned, a never-ending
task in a ceramic studio. A collector
of many things, he is always available
to take home those pottery items
students don't want to keep. |
