Honors Program

About
The Honors Program at Southwestern Community College is designed to:
Challenge high achieving and highly motivated students to purposefully engage in Honors coursework. Honors coursework is designed to enrich and expand the expectations of the traditional college course.
Intentionally focus on academic excellence including critical thinking, communication skills, and academic inquiry. Honors coursework generally will be more writing, research and/or project intensive.
Engage students and faculty across all disciplines.
Encourage and support Honors students in leadership and service to the college and the community.
   
Honors Program Eligibility
To be eligible for the Honors Program students must meet the following criteria for participation:
High School, college prep graduate/first semester attending SCC:
A high school weighted GPA of 4.00 or higher, or
A high school class rank in the top 10%, or
An SAT of 1875 or an ACT of 30 or higher
All other SCC students
A 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA with at least 12 semester hours of college coursework

Honors Program Participation
Contact the Honors Program Advisor to learn about program expectations.
Collaborate with a faculty member to design an Honors contract. An Honors contract identifies the additional requirements to meet the Honors designation for the course. The contracts will be reviewed and approved by the Honors Program Committee.
To remain in the Honors Program, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

To receive an Honors designation on the Degree/Diploma:
Successful completion of program of study with a 3.5 or higher
Students must successfully complete 12 hours of Honors course credit with an “A” or “B” in each course.
