Calvin Eugene Taylor-41, Master Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and resident of 91 Pipes Drive died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 in the line of duty.

Calvin was the son of Charles Walter “Birddog” Taylor, Sr. of Newport, TN and Ann Whiteside Taylor of Canton. He was a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a 1978 graduate of Pisgah High School and attended Southwestern Technical College receiving a degree in Criminal Justice. He joined the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and has been a 21 year veteran. He was a Mason and member of Sonoma Lodge # 472 AF & AM and member of Waynesville York Rite Bodies.

In addition to his mother and father Calvin is survived by two sisters; Patricia R. Taylor of Franklin and Dorine T. Styles and her husband Charles of Burnsville, a brother Chuck Taylor, and his wife Peggy of Canton, a special friend; Jane Kimsey of Franklin and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 6, 2001 at the Stuart Auditorium at the United Methodist Assembly at Lake Junaluska. The Reverend Rob Fuquay officiated. Masonic services were also conducted by the Sonoma Lodge #472 AF & AM. Entombment at the Horizon Mausoleum at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with Full Honors provided by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Honorary pallbearers were members of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Active pallbearers were Trooper H. K. Feinberg, Trooper R.L. Herndon, Trooper D. A. Robinson, Trooper W. D. Franklin III, Trooper D. H. Wood, and Trooper R. S. Byers.
