- Southwestern will premier an on-line creative writing course
(ENG 125) beginning in January.
The
course, which is designed to expose students to various
genres of writing, will be delivered on-line. Students will
also have the opportunity to participate in peer discussions
and critiques on SCC's Jackson Campus every other week throughout
the semester.
Anyone
interested in pursuing this course is asked to attend orientation
for SCC's web-based courses on the Jackson Campus Jan. 8
from 4-6 p.m. or Jan. 11 from 9-11 a.m.
"We hope offering an on-line creative writing class
will enable students who are aspiring writers but lack the
time to commit to the traditional classroom environment,
an opportunity to participate in an innovative and challenging
experience," said Chris Cox, Southwestern's Dean of
Arts and Sciences. "We think this course lends itself
in many respects to the on-line format."
Beginning
in the fall of 2002, Southwestern will also premier two
associate's degree programs on-line--Medical Laboratory
Technology and Cyber Crime. These programs are currently
accepting applications for the fall semester.
"At
Southwestern, we are committed to providing higher education
through traditional as well as alternative methods,"
said Gene Couch, Vice President of Instructional Services.
"In addition to our Weekend College, the on-line programs
and courses will provide another path for higher learning
to our community."
