More than 150 students

honored at annual Academic Awards Ceremony

SYLVA - More than 150 Southwestern Community College students were recognized for outstanding academic performance Tuesday night, April 3, during the annual Academic Awards Ceremony in Myers Auditorium.

Guest speaker for the evening was Dr. Dennis R. Depew, the Dean for Western Carolina University's College of Applied Sciences. He spoke about how today's students are prepared for the future and expressed how deeply SCC had touched each honoree's life.


Students recognized during the ceremony were honored for earning a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above, and 24 of the students earned High Honors designations by maintaining a perfect 4.0. Special recognitions were also given to students selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, the All-USA Academic Team and North Carolina Community College System Academic Excellence Award.
