SYLVA
- Duke
Energy Telecom Division representatives visited Southwestern Community
College's Electronic Engineering Technology students on Wednesday, April
11, in hopes of recruiting prospective employees. Tim
Slay, Manager of Duke Telecommunications Division, and David Fulmer,
Manager of Field Services for Duke's Telecommunications Division, said
they have long been impressed with the quality of SCC graduates. "about
a dozen of our folks graduated from Southwestern, and they are the top
tier of our organization," said Slay. SCC's
Electronic Engineering Technology program prepares students to become
technicians who design, build, install, test, troubleshoot, repair and
modify developmental and production electronic components, equipment,
and systems such as industrial/computer controls, manufacturing systems,
communication systems, and power electronic systems. With
$58 billion in assets and by generating more than $49 billion in 2000,
Slay and Fulmer, made persuasive
claims to the stability and supremacy Duke Energy offers prospective
employees. Duke
Energy Telecommunications is subdivided into three divisions: DukeNet
Communications, Duke Communications Services and Duke Energy Corporate
Telecom Division - the division for which Slay and Fulmer targeted recruiting
efforts. They are recruiting employees to install and maintain telecom
equipment for this division. This division currently employs more than
160 employees in the Carolinas and in Houston, Texas. |
