SCC Foundation installs new members

SYLVA - Six new members joined the Southwestern Community College Foundation's board of directors during its annual meeting on Monday, April 9, on the College's Jackson Campus.

New members of the board who participated in orientation and were officially seated at this meeting included: Mary Moody-Bumgarner of Jackson County, Carol Saunooke of Cherokee, Jim Zoller of Jackson County, Hart Goodson of Jackson County, Wanda Lawless of Cherokee, and Buck Trott of Macon County.

Retiring board members who were acknowledged for their service were: R.P. Jenkins of Swain County, Dotty Parton of Jackson County, Reg Moody, Sr. of Jackson County, Janet Jacobs-Greene of County, Ann Ball of Swain County, and Rogers Shelton of Jackson County. Moody and Shelton had each contributed 20 years of service to the Foundation.

Also at the meeting, the board approved the budget for the year, which included more than 25 scholarships for students, a program for student ambassadors and several fund raising events throughout the year. Members heard a presentation by Patty Wilson and DiAnne Crisp about the upcoming "Ducks on the Tuck" duck race on April 28, which will benefit the New Century Scholars program.

The SCC Foundation supplements Southwestern's operating budget and provides educational opportunities for students through scholarship funding that would be otherwise unavailable.
