Student Robbie Williams Named Recipient of Ronald W. Poor Scholarship
SYLVA
- Robbie Williams, a second-year student in Southwestern Community
College's Electronics Engineering Technology program, has been
selected as the 2002-2003 recipient of the Ronald W. Poor scholarship.
The
scholarship, which is sponsored by Quinn Theaters, Inc. in Sylva,
will pay tuition and book fees for the final year of his degree
program.
Williams,
a native of Macon County and graduate of Franklin High School,
is the son of Marlene Williams and the late Robert Williams, a
vocational teacher at Franklin High.
"When
I registered Robbie for the first time, he was surprised that
I had known his father," said Ron Poor, Southwestern's Electronics
Engineering Program Director. "I had visited his classroom
many times and had several of his former students in the Electronics
Engineering Technology program. It is rewarding to have the opportunity
to teach the child of a former colleague. Rob was a dedicated
teacher and a good man. I know that he would be proud of Robbie."
The
Ronald W. Poor Scholarship is awarded annually to students at
Southwestern Community College who are currently enrolled in the
Electronics Engineering
Technology or Computer
Engineering Technology programs. For additional information
on these programs, contact Poor at 586-4091 or (800) 447-4091
ext. 214.
