From the time they were in the second grade, Andrew
Makepeace Ladd, III, and Melissa Gardiner corresponded with
each other through letters. This correspondence began as the
pair forged an amusing friendship and it continued through
the years - and through an ill-fated romance - as they passed
through adolescence, maturity and into middle age.
These
individuals and their letters are at the heart of "Love
Letters," a play by A.R. Gurney that will be performed
by actors Lloyd Kay and Reta Scribner as the Southwestern
Community College's annual spring dinner theater gala on
April 19. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a European
dinner buffet and dessert bar.
At
8 p.m., Kay and Scribner will portray their characters during
a life-long friendship as seen through the honesty of their
letters.
Admission
to this year's dinner theater will cost $40, and only 135
tickets will be sold for this event. All proceeds will go
toward the SCC Foundation, which helps enable Southwestern
to expand educational opportunities for students by providing
money that would be otherwise unavailable.
