Darren Chastain of Franklin was recently named the first 'Tim's Auto Parts/NAPA Scholarship' recipient. Becky Medford, executive director of the SCC Foundation, Tim Jones (third from right), owner of Tim's Auto Parts, and Pete Wolosin, SCC's automotive technology program coordinator were on-hand to congratulate Chastain.

That fund, started by Tim and Marcia Jones, along with the Charlotte NAPA Distribution Center, will be awarded annually to two local high school seniors. Recipients must attend a high school that has an automotive program and have applied to the automotive technology program at Southwestern Community College.

"Our desire is to get people interested in the automotive field," said Tim Jones, owner of NAPA stores in Sylva, Franklin, Cherokee and Cashiers. "It's such a great profession--you get to work with technology and with people. What could be better?"

Darren Chastain, of Franklin, was named recipient of the first scholarship last week.

"It's always been a dream of mine to work around cars," said Chastain. "And, this scholarship is helping to make my dream possible. I'm just very grateful to the Jones'."
