Paul Holt honored at SCC Foundation 30th Anniversary Dinner

WHITTIER - During its 30th anniversary appreciation dinner, held last week at The Oaks in Whittier, the Southwestern Community College Foundation honored Paul Holt, Jr. for his dedication and commitment to the college and community.

Paul HoltHolt, a Sylva-based attorney, was the founding chairman of the SCC Foundation and has served on the board for the past thirty years. In addition, Holt has also served for 34 years on SCC's board of trustees, 20 years as the secretary of Jackson Savings Bank, 34 years as attorney for Harris Regional Hospital, 19 years as the attorney for Jackson and 35 years as the Jackson County School Board attorney. He has also held positions with Citizens Bank, Wachovia and at Sylva's First Presbyterian Church.

"It was not easy to create a biography on Paul," said Cecil Groves, president of SCC, as he addressed foundation board members, past and present. "He is not one to gloat or keep a resume of his community involvement up-to-date. But one thing is for certain--Paul sets the mark high for his peers to give back to the community in which they live."

Also at the ceremony, Bruce Jones, a recent graduate of SCC's cyber crime technology program and recipient of a Foundation scholarship, addressed the crowd on the profound impact the scholarship had on his life.

I want to return to SCC as an instructor in the Cyber Crime Technology Program, so I can help others the way that so many have helped me at SCC."
