Haywood Regional Medical Center Donates Diagnostic Equipment to SCC

SYLVA - Haywood Regional Medical Center recently donated a Sensormedics Pulmonary Function Laboratory 2200, a sensitive piece of diagnostic equipment used to accurately measure and analyze lung function, to Southwestern Community College's respiratory therapy program.

"This piece of equipment will be a great asset in educating students about processes used in respiratory therapy," said Paul Rice, clinical coordinator for SCC's respiratory therapy program. "Students will be able to simulate lung function analysis currently used in the clinical setting to accurately determine, as well as trend, patient lung mechanics."

With this information, respiratory therapists can assess patients' response to therapy, allowing physicians to monitor progression of the disease process.

For additional information on SCC's respiratory therapy program, contact Gary Dillard, SCC's respiratory therapy program coordinator at 586-4091 or (800) 447-4091, Ext. 472.
