Lusky and Luker named recipients of SCC's Academic Excellence Awards

SYLVA - SCC officials recently selected Jason Lusky and Boyce Luker both of Cullowhee as the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Academic Excellence Awards recipients for the 2002-03 school year.

Each year, Academic Excellence Awards are given to two students from each of the 59 colleges within the NCCCS. Of the more than 700,000 students in the NC system, only 118 receive the honor each year. Recipients are chosen based on grade point average and a written essay detailing their community college experience.

Luker is enrolled in the Business Administration program concentrating in e-Commerce and received a 4.0 GPA last semester. Lusky is enrolled in Electronics Engineering Technology and received a 3.893 last fall.

All recipients are invited to attend the Academic Excellence Awards Luncheon held on Apr. 24 in Raleigh. In addition to the award recipients, members of the General Assembly and college officials will attend the luncheon.

Southwestern Community College is a member of the NCCCS, one of the three largest community college systems in the country. NCCCS is the primary source for job training, literacy and adult education in NC.
