SCC
Automotive Program Receives National Certification
SYLVA
- Southwestern Community College's automotive
technology program recently received certification by the
National Automotive
Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National
Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), making
it one of only two schools in the region to hold this coveted
certification.
"During
the past several months we have worked closely with NATEF to ensure
that our program would meet strict industry standards," said
Pete Wolosin, SCC's automotive technology program coordinator.
"Now we are delighted to join the ranks of the ASE certified
technician training programs. Students will be assured of a quality
education, and shop owners will know they're getting quality applicants."
In
order to achieve this recognition, the automotive program underwent
rigorous evaluation by NATEF. The program underwent an exhaustive
self-study and a three-day on site assessment by a four-member
evaluation team. Upon completion of the evaluation, NATEF recommended
that ASE, a national, non-profit organization that tests and certifies
repair technicians and technician-training programs, certify SCC's
automotive program in all eight areas of certification. They are:
engine repair, brakes, automatic transmission/transaxle, electrical
electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, engine performance,
manual drive train and axels, suspension and steering,
The
program is now certified for a period of five years, after which
it will be reviewed to ensure that it continues to meet industry
standards and to adjust to the latest technological advances in
the rapidly changing automotive world.
