George Ellison to Speak at SCC Mar. 5 and Mar. 18

SYLVA - Western North Carolina writer, naturalist, lecturer and historian, George Ellison, will speak at Southwestern Community College on the history and beauty of the region.

Ellison will present a free seminar entitled, "Where are we? The Geologic Past and Present Day Geographic Setting of the Blue Ridge" at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 5 and again at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 18. Both seminars will be held in Myers Auditorium on SCC's Jackson Campus. Ellison will discuss the origins of the Appalachians, the Eastern Continental Divide and Appalachian Trail, the location of the Appalachian "rain forest" and distinctive natural areas, and the placement of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Ellison, who was recently a guest speaker at the College's President's Council, left faculty and staff members so impressed with his vast knowledge of western North Carolina, that administrators asked Ellison to return.
