SCC
offers Two New Internet Certifications
SYLVA
- Southwestern Community College, a Certified Internet Webmaster
(CIW) authorized training provider, is now offering two new certifications
in Internet design and Internet programming.
The
Internet design certificate offers a unique focus on the design
of web pages. Six courses are required to complete this certification,
including coursework in web graphics, web management and e-commerce.
Some of the programs that are taught for this certificate include
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Flash MX, and Adobe PhotoShop
7.0. While completing requirements for the design certificate,
students will be able to earn their Master Certified Internet
Webmaster (CIW) Designer Certification--an industry-leading certification
for webmasters. Graduates of this certificate program will be
prepared to work in positions as web designers.
Additionally,
Southwestern is offering an Internet programming certificate.
This certificate may be earned exclusively on-line or traditionally
in the classroom. This certificate has a distinct focus on the
programming side of web pages. Students begin with entry-level
HTML and Visual BASIC courses then work their way through Active
Server Pages (ASP), Internet protocols and Hypertext Preprocessor
(PHP) programming. While fulfilling the requirements for the Internet
Programming certificate, students will be able to earn their CIW
Associate Certification. Students who earn this certificate will
be prepared to work in Internet Programming positions designing
shopping carts, search engines, etc.
High
school students, who meet concurrent enrollment requirements,
can complete the Internet programming certificate in three semesters
through on-line coursework while they are still in high school.
"This
is a great option for students that are still in high school as
well as workers already in the workforce," said Scott Cline,
SCC's Internet technologies program coordinator. "High school
students can earn the certificate while they are still in high
school, and for those who are currently employed and need to learn
a scripting language, this is their opportunity to learn one without
taking any time away from work."
Cline
will host an information session about the certifications from
5:30 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 in room 126 in Founder's Hall
on SCC's Jackson Campus. For additional information, contact Thom
Brooks, SCC's dean of career technologies at (800) 447-4091 or
586-4091, ext. 202.
