Sutton
Reappointed to SCC's Board of Trustees
FRANKLIN
- Jerry Sutton of Franklin was recently reappointed to serve a
four-year term on the Southwestern Community College Board of
Trustees by Governor Mike Easley.
Sutton,
who has served on SCC's Board of Trustees for 20 years, including
seven terms as chairman, is a former director of the Governor's
western office, a retired dairy farmer, former Macon County Commissioner
and currently works as a part-time real estate broker.
"We
couldn't be happier to have Jerry serve another term on our Board,"
said Conrad Burrell, chairman of the SCC Board of Trustees. "Jerry
has a longstanding relationship with SCC, and we're extremely
pleased to have him serve again."
Cecil
Groves, president of SCC echoed Burrell's sentiment. "Jerry
has been a longtime friend to the College. His sense of community
and knowledge of this region is a genuine asset to the Board,
and we are delighted to have him continue serving on the Board."
Southwestern
Community College is governed by a local Board of Trustees within
the framework of the Community Colleges Act, Chapter 115D of the
General Statutes of North Carolina. The Board consists of 14 trustees
- five appointed by the county commissioners, four appointed by
the Board of Education, four appointed by the Governor of North
Carolina and the Student Government Association president as an
ex-officio member.
This
year's SGA president is Amy Potts of Cashiers. Potts will serve
a one-year term on the Board.
