Sutton Reappointed to SCC's Board of Trustees

FRANKLIN - Jerry Sutton of Franklin was recently reappointed to serve a four-year term on the Southwestern Community College Board of Trustees by Governor Mike Easley.

Sutton, who has served on SCC's Board of Trustees for 20 years, including seven terms as chairman, is a former director of the Governor's western office, a retired dairy farmer, former Macon County Commissioner and currently works as a part-time real estate broker.

"We couldn't be happier to have Jerry serve another term on our Board," said Conrad Burrell, chairman of the SCC Board of Trustees. "Jerry has a longstanding relationship with SCC, and we're extremely pleased to have him serve again."

Cecil Groves, president of SCC echoed Burrell's sentiment. "Jerry has been a longtime friend to the College. His sense of community and knowledge of this region is a genuine asset to the Board, and we are delighted to have him continue serving on the Board."

Southwestern Community College is governed by a local Board of Trustees within the framework of the Community Colleges Act, Chapter 115D of the General Statutes of North Carolina. The Board consists of 14 trustees - five appointed by the county commissioners, four appointed by the Board of Education, four appointed by the Governor of North Carolina and the Student Government Association president as an ex-officio member.

This year's SGA president is Amy Potts of Cashiers. Potts will serve a one-year term on the Board.
