Hooper,
Madden Reappointed to SCC's Board of Trustees
SYLVA
- Earl Hooper, retired superintendent of Jackson County School
System, and Ed Madden, real estate broker and building contractor
for Madden Realty, were recently reappointed to serve four-year
terms on the Southwestern Community College Board of Trustees.
Hooper,
of Sylva, has served on SCC's Board for the past 17 years and
currently serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees' curriculum
and student services committee. Hooper was reappointed by the
Jackson County Board of Education.
The
Jackson County Board of Commissioners reappointed Madden, of Cashiers,
to serve his second four-year term on the Board.
"I
was extremely pleased to learn that Earl and Ed were reappointed
to the Board," said Conrad Burrell, chairman of the SCC Board
of Trustees. "Their commitment to Southwestern, along with
their knowledge of our region, will allow them to serve the College
and community well."
Cecil
Groves, president of SCC reiterated Burrell's sentiment. "I
was delighted to hear Earl and Ed were reappointed to the Board.
Their demonstrated interest in educating western North Carolinians
complements our efforts at Southwestern to provide affordable,
quality education to the people in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties
and the Qualla Boundary."
Southwestern
Community College is governed by a local Board of Trustees within
the framework of the Community Colleges Act, Chapter 115D of the
General Statutes of North Carolina. The Board consists of 14 trustees
- five appointed by the county commissioners, four appointed by
the Board of Education, four appointed by the Governor of North
Carolina and the Student Government Association president as an
ex-officio member.
