Sylva…
Southwestern Community College’s recent board
of trustees meeting saw the swearing in of two members.
Local attorney Paul Holt, a founding member of the board
who has served for 38 consecutive years and SCC Student
Leadership Association member Virginia Cranfield were
sworn in by Jackson County Clerk of Court, Ann Melton.
The ceremony followed a dinner at which present and
former members of the board were honored for their service.
During the dinner, Dr. Cecil Groves presented N.C. House
Rep. Phil Haire and Senator Bob Carpenter with plaques
from the NC Association of Community College Presidents.
The awards were made in recognition of their service
during the 2004 legislative session.
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the college also took
the opportunity to present the first viewing of a PowerPoint
presentation on the history of the board with images
dating from the establishment of the board in 1968.
