Energy
Savings Workshop for Business and Industry -
Jan 12 & 13, 2006
With energy costs rising, businesses and organizations
want to keep those costs to a minimum. The first step
in this process is to formulate an effective energy
management plan. To this end, Southwestern Community
College will hold “Energy Savings Workshop for
Business and Industry” on Thursday and Friday,
Jan. 12 and 13.
This two-day workshop is designed for maintenance supervisors,
office building superintendents, hotel maintenance supervisors,
school maintenance directors and plant managers. Participants
will learn how to gather data, calculate savings, find
savings opportunities and properly use the latest equipment.
The workshop will be led by Charles Krug, M.B.A., who
also holds a degree in mechanical engineering. Krug
has extensive experience in power distribution, energy
management, motor control logic and motor protection.
His responsibilities have included successfully solving
control problems, assisting in start-up, training, marketing
and the introduction of new motor control products in
a variety of international settings.
Krug has presented technical seminars throughout the
United States for both in-house and customer training
for Westinghouse, British Petroleum, Volvo, Eaton Electric,
Colbond, Siemens, Cardinal Health and Powel Electric.
“In
this workshop, participants will gain the tools to review
their expenses and learn how to monitor and record what
is really going on regarding energy usage,” Krug
said. “They’ll learn to review space heating,
lighting, cooling, the building envelope and electrical
motor use. We’ll look at interactive patterns
such as outside air temperature compared with what is
going on inside.”
According to Krug, there will also be an opportunity
for participants to think and review their own situations
and draw up a preliminary action plan at the end of
the seminar before they go back to their daily responsibilities.
“They will learn to summarize their findings,
calculate potential dollar savings on an annualized
basis and how to present their findings to their plant
manager or building owner, along with a detailed return
on investment,” he said.
The workshop will be held at the SCC Swain Center from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 12 and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon
on Jan. 13. Cost for the workshop is $79 which includes
the $55 registration fee. For more information, contact
