HOSA competition held Dec 1 at SCC

HOSA competition at SCC Dec 1During the Health Occupation Students of America Regional Competition Thursday, Dec. 1, at Southwestern Community College, Britney McCracken, second from left, and Tiffany Blakemore, third from left, both students at East Rutherford High School, share their project on pre-natal care with Smoky Mountain High School students Allen Stephens, left, Megan Sutton, fourth from left, and Justin Pannel, right. Sutton, the regional HOSA president, is also the state HOSA historian and Stephens serves as the regional HOSA treasurer. Representing the 11 counties of Buncombe, Clay, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, and Transylvania, 175 students competed in activities including career health displays, creative problem solving, job-seeking skills, extemporaneous, prepared and researched persuasive speaking and HOSA bowl. Students were also tested in the fields of CPR, sports, medicine, medical math and medical terminology. Regional winners advance to the state finals in spring.
