Day Celebration - Nov 10 at SCC

War II Marine Veteran Robert Youngdeer, former Chief
of the Eastern Band of Cherokee, will be the featured
speaker during Southwestern Community College’s
Veteran’s Day Celebration Thursday, Nov. 10.
Sponsored by SCC’s Native American Society, the
event will be held at 11 a.m. in the Bradford Hall Student
Lounge on the Jackson Campus.
Youngdeer fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal and a
special invitation is extended to all veterans to attend
his presentation. The Cherokee High School ROTC will
present the flags.
On Friday, Nov. 11, the NAS will show the movie Wind
Talkers featuring the Navajo Code Talkers. The movie
will be from noon to 2 p.m. in the Bradford Student
Lounge. Popcorn and drinks will be furnished.
As part of honoring November as Native American Month,
the club has a display of Native American arts and crafts
in the library foyer and an art exhibition by Cherokee
artist John Henry Gloyne in the Balsam lobby.
