Law
Enforcement Training programs to be offered at SCC
The fast moving profession of law enforcement demands
cognitive and physical skills. Southwestern Community
College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET)
program provides individuals the training to meet those
demands.

Students
take the wheel for intensive defensive driving training
in SCC's Basic Law Enforcement Training program
that prepares them to serve as police officers and
sheriff’s deputies throughout North Carolina.

This year, SCC offers two sections in their state accredited
BLET program.
The first, a day class, begins May 15 and runs through
August 28. It is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and
will meet Monday through Friday.
The second, an evening class, will run from August 28,
2006, through April 17, 2007. This class will meet from
6 to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. most Saturdays.
These
two courses will prepare entry level individuals with
the skills to become certified to work as sworn law
enforcement officers, as police officers or deputy sheriffs,
in North Carolina.
The course is comprised of 33 separate blocks of instruction.
These include defensive driving; fire arms training;
criminal law; constitutional law; arrest, search and
seizure; and much more.
All admission requirements and required paper work must
be completed and submitted prior to the first class
meeting. Applications must be submitted prior to the
mandatory class orientation on May 1 at 9 a.m. for the
day class and August 7 at 6 p.m. for the evening class.
Registration cost for each course is $65. In addition,
book costs will be approximately $275. Student insurance
is optional. Uniform shirts and physical training attire
are also required and cost approximately $75.
