Arts students present portfolios
Seven
Advertising and Graphic Design students at Southwestern
Community College gave formal portfolio presentations
at a public showing in Bradford Hall on Monday, May
8, thus completing their requirements for graduation.
The impressing presentations brought praise and congratulations
from instructors, administrators, family members and
friends to Lindsey Turrentine of Tuckasegee, Amber Hughes
of Franklin, Wren Haney of Robbinsville, John Cisneros
of Franklin, Hether Pierce of Highlands, William DeVoe
of Sylva, and Lisa Fisher of Cullowhee.

Presenting
their professional portfolios at Southwestern Community
College recently, were Advertising and Graphic Design

It
was later noted that five of the students have jobs
pending final interviews. Haney is already employed
with Jan Industries, an outdoor advertising company
in Andrews and will continue his education at UNC-Asheville
this fall. And Hether Pierce is self-employed with Keeper
Concepts.
The SCC Advertising and Graphic Design curriculum is
designed to provide students with knowledge and skills
necessary for employment in the graphic design profession
which emphasizes design, advertising, illustration and
digital and multimedia preparation of printed and electronic
promotional materials.
Students are trained in the development of concept and
design for promotional materials such as newspaper and
magazine advertisements, posters, folders, letterheads,
corporate symbols, brochures, booklets, preparation
of art for printing, lettering and typography, photography
and electronic media.
Successful graduates qualify for employment opportunities
with graphic design studios, advertising agencies, printing
companies, department stores, a wide variety of manufacturing
industries, newspapers, and businesses with in-house
graphics operation.
