Enrichment for Youth
Kids
from Jackson, Macon and Swain counties in age groups
9 through 11 and 12 through 14 can explore new and old
craft traditions this summer in two week-long programs
being offered by the Southwestern Community College's
Heritage Arts Enrichment Program for Youth.
Scheduled June 19 through 23, both programs will meet
each day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a pot luck dinner
set for 5:30 on Friday to celebrate and show off student
work. The classes will be taught at the SCC Swain Center
located five miles west of Bryson City at NC 28 and
74.
Classes will run in basket weaving, loom weaving, clay,
sewing, painting and drawing, Scottish dancing, mixed
bag and square dancing.
The Enrichment Program for Youth is offered through
a collaborative effort among Southwestern Community
College, the NC Extension Service and the 4-H programs
of Jackson, Macon and Swain counties and the Qualla
Boundary. Cost for the program is $187.50, with a few
$100 scholarships available. For additional information,
