Spanish for teachers offered
Spanish
for Teachers, an intensive two-week course, will be
offered by Southwestern Community College at two locations
in June.
The course will provide formal skills for teachers to
assist them in the communication process with Spanish
speaking students in their classrooms. Content will
focus on classroom management and building team skills
with student/teacher activities. In addition, participants
will develop cultural understanding of the Hispanic
community within western North Carolina.
"The goal is to help the teacher become comfortable
using some Spanish when leading their students, meeting
parents and communicating assignments, directions and
effective teaching techniques for the classroom,"
Susan McCaskill, vice president for Extension Education
and Economic Development, said. "We're providing
a low pressure, fun and informal setting in which teachers
can develop these skills. At the same time, they will
be earning six valuable CEUs."
