ranks first in state
Southwestern
Community College took first place in the 2006 Upward
Bound Scholar Bowl held at Surry Community College in
Dobson on March 25. The students were presented questions
from literature, science, math, current events and history.
Nine teams from across the state competed for the championship,
with SCC taking first place. Team members from left are
(front) Tyler Brooks, Carter Harley (back) Josh Cantrell,
Noah Savage, Shandy Conley, John Cody; not pictured Ashley
White and Daniel Bottoms. In addition, Savage was the
overall top scorer for the Scholar Bowl. He received a
medal for his performance and will be sponsored through
the North Carolina Council of Educational Opportunity
Programs to attend a Jeopardy! tryout. For additional
