culinary technology students prepare meal
at Community Table
Southwestern Community College
culinary technology students prepared
the Blue Plate Special at Sylva's
Community Table on Wednesday, Nov.
27, to an appreciative crowd of
customers.
The SCC program, under the direction
of instructor Ceretta Davis, volunteered
their time and expertise to cook
up their popular layered taco salad
and Mexican wedding cake to help
raise funds for the local organization.

"It was fun and for a great cause,"
Star Martin, culinary technology student,
said. "We enjoyed planning the
meal and going there to prepare it.
We were really pleased to be asked
since some great local restaurants
have been invited in the past."
SCC culinary students Aaron Brown,
Angelia Calangan, Manuel Alfaro, Gabriel
Finnegan, Jonathan Hoag, Dylan Rice
and William Mayse prepared the Blue
Plate Special.
While Community Table prepares free
meals Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and
Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m., on the
last Wednesday of each month they
hold a fund raiser with a Blue Plate
Special from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The
event features a meal prepared by
a different restaurant or other provider
each month. All meals at Community
Table are served restaurant style,
although take out is available and
deliveries in the Cullowhee, Sylva,
Dillsboro area for the Blue Plate
Special.
"We often have large orders from
local businesses and are glad to deliver
them," volunteer Veronica Nicholas
said. "All funds raised coming
from the Blue Plate Special go toward
the support of the Community Table."
Community Table is supported by the
community through donations of food,
funds and volunteer time. It is located
in Sylva at the corner of Bartlett
Street and Storybook Lane, across
from the Sylva Church of Christ.
