McMahan
appointed to SCC Board
Brian McMahan was recently
appointed and sworn in to the Southwestern
Community College Board of Trustees. He
was named to the board by the Jackson
County Commissioners.
McMahan is chairman of the Jackson County
Board of Commissioners and is also assistant
chief of security at Balsam Mountain Preserve.
Born in Sylva, McMahan earned a B.S. degree
in political science at Western Carolina
University with a focus on state and local
government and a minor in history.
"I am very pleased with the appointment
of Brian to the SCC Board of Trustees,"
said SCC president, Dr. Cecil Groves.
"The Board and I look forward to
working with him to further the College’s
goal to continue providing the superior,
affordable education the citizens of our
service area have come to expect from
SCC.”
Conrad Burrell, chairman of the Southwestern
Board of Trustees, stated he too is pleased
with McMahan’s appointment. “I
know Brian McMahan will serve the college
and the community well. We are very pleased
to welcome him to the Board of Trustees.”
