The students asked for it and they got it.

For the first time ever, Southwestern Community College will offer a December graduation. It will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, in the Balsam Building on the Jackson campus.

"We have so many students graduating this semester -56 of them, which is almost as big as our summer graduating class," said SCC President Cecil Groves. "The students requested that we hold a December graduation for them since it's difficult for many of them to finish their programs and degrees, start or resume careers and then have to come back in spring for a ceremony."

The 56 graduates include four New Century Scholars and two students from Bulgaria, with a total of four candidates in health sciences, 12 in arts and sciences and 40 in career technologies.
